My father landed on Utah Beach on June 7, 1944 (One day after D-Day). He didn’t talk much about his experiences, but he did tell a story about Gen. Eisenhower, with General Bradley and General Patton in tow, visiting a newly “liberated” Concentration Camp. Within minutes of starting their walking inspection, Patton disappeared behind an out building. When he returned he apologized, noting that he disappeared to vomit.

Patton was as tough as they come, but his reaction was a clear statement that transcended all language barriers.
